LINNEA HOPFENBECK
Linnea Hopfenbeck is the 2021 winner of the Dan Hemingway Creativity Prize, awarded for her excellent poetry.
Award winner Linnea said, "I’ve been quite busy recently with school and extracurriculars but I’m still writing everyday. Winning the prize (along with everything that’s going on in the world at the moment) has made me reflect on why I write poetry and who I write it for. I often feel unsure about my purpose and what the future holds, but I am so thankful for the organisation of this competition. Taking part in the prize has reaffirmed that I can become a writer, and I hope to publish a collection in the future."
Linnea is currently studying English, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, but English has always been her favourite subject.
"I remember loving The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in Year 7 and have been attempting to write poetry ever since. My first collection of poetry Home is about my experiences of living in Norway, America and England. I have tried to capture the way I have felt growing up - which like the poems is a mix of joy, sadness, anxiety and nostalgia. I will continue writing poetry."
Linnea hopes to study Film and Creative writing at an East Coast university in America next year.
The 2021 judges were Miles Waters, Will Wiles and Sue Hemingway.
